Facial Hair Transplant
Have you ever heard of a facial hair transplant?
If you haven’t, you’re not alone, but if you’re a person who choses to wear a beard or mustache, or if you have difficulty growing full, even eyebrows, good news has arrived. NYC hair transplant technology has been advancing steadily in recent years and growing in popularity as the natural-looking and versatile hair transplant method becomes available to more men and women. FUE stands for follicular unit extraction. This method of transplant does not rely on the excision of scalp tissue like the traditional, FUT, strip methods do. Instead, a precise hand tool allows your surgeon to punch a tiny, 1mm plug containing 1-3 follicular units and graft that in where it’s needed. The donor site will have carefully dispersed, small, round spots left behind which are virtually invisible, unlike the long, linear FUT scar.
For facial hair transplantation, FUE is the method of choice and will remove hair follicles from the back of the patient’s scalp, or even the chest and back.
How Is It Done?
Before beginning, the treatment areas are numbed with topical anaesthetic, so the patient feels comfortable and relaxed all the way through. Depending on the size of the areas to be treated, the entire procedure may take between 3-6 hours so reading a book, watching TV or listening to music are popular ways to pass the time. For beard, eyebrow and mustache transplants, very small, single hair units are often extracted and transplanted so the smallest, 0.5 – 0.6 mm plugs are taken with the punch tool.
Your hair NYC hair transplant surgeon will create the design for your facial hair growth pattern with you, then methodically fill in the right density within those lines. The incisions made must be carefully angled to mimic natural hair growth shape and angle.
