New Jersey FUE

An exciting area of cosmetic surgery, hair transplant procedures have been increasing in popularity and decreasing in price in recent years. Hair Transplants are not the exclusive right of “A-listers” & celebrities any longer.

Whether a slicked back Gatsby style, id-length sexy curls or sophisticated fade, male celebrities set fashion standards and create hair envy all around the globe for many guys just like you. Knowing that male pattern baldness is as prevalent as we do, how is it that our culture’s most popular and stylish celebrities seem to always have full, thick hairstyles to compliment their designer good looks? Well, it was once true that restoring one’s hairline or a full head of hair carried a steep price tag that only the rich and fabulous could afford. We don’t think that’s fair and we’re glad it is no longer true!

The result, is that more than ever, effective and natural-looking hair restoration options are available for everyone from A-list celebrities to regular guys looking for a permanent solution and self-esteem boost.

A typical consultation at our state of the art hair transplant center in New Jersey will involve discussion with you about your concerns and an overview of the best hair transplant treatment options to suit you. Your plastic surgeon will ask for background information to determine what the cause of your personal hair loss is.

You will gain vital information from this meeting, including an explanation of how the hair loss procedure is done and what to expect from your recovery.

Photographs will be taken to establish your baseline and track your results. A tailored and personalized quote will be provided to help you plan next steps.

So, what are the best options for hair transplant surgery today? There have been two primary hair restoration procedures available in recent years. The strip hair transplant surgery, otherwise known as FUT or FUSS, or, more recently, FUE, which stands for follicular unit extraction.

FUE Treatment

The male pattern baldness that most men experience is a hereditary type of hair loss. This means that, while there are healthy lifestyle choices, supplements and medications that may help slow down the shedding, in order to restore the look of a full head of hair, a hair transplant is the only effective, long-term and transformative solution.

Many men experience genetically linked hair loss as young as 20 years old and will often consider topical treatments and supplements as a hair loss cure before surgery. The frustration tends to be, however, that many products do not produce long term results, if any, and they may lead to unwanted side effects.

No Strip Transplant

Strip transplant surgery was once considered to be the gold standard. The technique is still used today, though it is becoming less common and there are several reasons for that. In the past, the term “hair transplant” may have brought to mind images of men with obvious “plug” donor sites on the top of their head and a long, linear scar in the back. At its worst, the strip transplant method can appear this way. The incision to remove a healthy strip of hair is taken from the back of the head where hairs are typically resistant to DHT and have good staying power. Hairs from the back of the head and sides are usually what remain for men who’ve gone bald, so these robust follicles have a higher success rate when transferred.

Transection of hair follicles from the donor zone is a risk when removing the strip, so great care is taken not to sever the follicles, thereby decreasing the success of transplants.

A series of very small holes left at the donor site will typically close well within a few days, and regular activity can be resumed. Healthy new hair growth can usually be seen within 3-4 months and full results realized by 1 year.

The primary difference between the previous and next generation hair transplant methods is that FUE does not remove a strip of scalp tissue or leave a linear scar, but the number of grafts extracted can match the number removed through FUT. FUE is also very useful for facial hair transplantation. Patchy beards, brows, uneven side burns or scars can be camouflaged seamlessly through skilled placement of FUE transplants.

How it Works

Before FUE

Before carrying out the FUE procedure, the doctor will buzz the patient’s hair very short in order to visualize the scalp and target hairs precisely.

The size of the donor zone can be more extensive with FUE, however, the process of extraction may take longer as well, requiring return visits. Under a powerful microscope, the donor grafts can be further separated and inspected to allow for highly precise implantation of only 1-4 hairs at a time. The follicles can also be chilled to prevent bacterial growth and extend longevity. Hairs are artfully inserted to create a natural hairline following typical hair growth patterns and direction. The entire process may take between 6-8 hours. Patients receive scalp numbing with an injection of local anesthetic prior to starting and can usually read or watch television comfortably during the procedure. Mild swelling and sensitivity is expected for a few days post procedure.

FUE Hair Transplant

A follicular unit extraction is the next generation of hair transplant after FUT (Follicual Unit Transplant). FUE involves the removal of each individual follicle using a tiny punch device that makes a very small hole and removes the hair and root together as one carefully preserved unit to be transplanted.

After FUE

Healing time varies but is typically much faster with FUE as opposed to the strip methods. The small incisions leave nearly invisible scars and patients can resume most regular activity within a couple of days.

Some of the latest and most advanced FUE hair loss devices are the systems which work on a microscopic level and have revolutionized the hair transplant industry. These leading-edge devices are able to extract follicles faster than before, reducing overall procedure time to an impressive, 5-6 hours. The tiny, micro-incisions mean no telltale scars and patients who can return to their busy lives quickly, without anyone knowing what they had done. Hair restoration has never been so easy and flawless.

Visible improvement is seen almost instantly with FUE and full results realized within a year.

As with other FUE methods, post-procedure care is relatively simple. The patient may have mild swelling for a few days. Gentle treatment of the area and taking care to avoid infection risks such as public swimming pools and hot tubs, will reduce the risk of infection in the first days. The natural growth cycle of human hair means that after an initial shed, new hairs can be seen as early as 3 months and will continue to fill in, thickening and growing the patient’s own, real hair.

The “take” rate can be more than 90% which is very successful and often means that no more than 1 procedure is needed.
